A Bold Liverpudlian Currency

Bold Street is one of Liverpool’s most popular destinations for independent businesses. Now, with the help of Colu and Independent Liverpool, it’s set to attract even more locals.

Bold Street is one of the most visited places for Independent Liverpool cardholders. The two co-founders, David Williams and Oliver Press have begun a movement that has become infectious to the street. Scores of restaurants on Bold Street are on the card, offering discounts and deals luring the customers in.

A brand new opportunity is on the horizon now. With Independent Liverpool working tirelessly to get the businesses the recognition they deserve, an exciting new scheme has been launched. Friends of Independent Liverpool, Colu have come forward with an ingenious plan.

Dubbed the Liverpool Pound, it’s a scheme designed for the locals. Colu is in the format of a digital wallet – similar to Apple Pay, there’s no need for the loose change in your pocket. Simply use the app on your phone to pay – each ‘Liverpool Local Pound’ is equivalent to one regular pound.

The biggest question on everyone’s lips will be how well it works. Liverpool and its people are always keen to push the city forward, helping to build a stronger community, economy and trade.

The app is still brand new. Launched only at the beginning of February, it’s still to stand the test of time and really take off. However, the success of Bold Street promises great things.

With new restaurants and businesses opening all the time – think ‘Koop’ which opened only in May 2016, and ‘American Pizza Slice’ which is just coming up to its’ first year anniversary – it’s evident that ‘new’ pulls customers in, along with deals. Using the Local pound will allow these places to flourish but will also give the customer further deals for supporting the independents.
